Career Planning
Career planning is a multi-step process that is best done over the course of years, not the last few months of your senior year in high school.
In elementary school, the focus on career planning is awareness. Students are made aware that there is a place we call, "the world of work," and are exposed to different career choices.
In middle school, the focus is on career exploration. Below, you will find some great tools to help you begin to explore careers and the world of work.

This site provides inside looks at different industries as well as providing tools such as career interest inventories and college information.
This site provides users with a career exploration tool as well as tips on working for yourself, writing a resume, applying to college, and getting a job.

O*NET is one of the top-rated career exploration websites for students. The information on careers comes directly from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a very comprehensive web site that gives loads of great information on specific career fields, what type of education and training is required, and how much money people working in those fields can expect to earn.
The South Carolina Career Information System has a ton of useful tools for students to begin exploring careers. There is also a budgeting tool called Reality Check that helps students understand what things cost in the real world. It's located under the "Where am I Going?" tab on the main menu, Most students have done the Career Interest Inventory as part of the career activities they do on half-days throughout the year.
