Teacher Web Sites

Since grades are made up of individual assignments, how do you keep up with those?

The directions below offer some suggestions on how to stay up-to-date with your student’s assignments.

Accessing a teacher’s web site can help you and your student stay on top of assignments as well as knowing when quizzes, tests, and projects will be coming soon.  Accessing an online textbook can help eliminate the excuse of forgetting the book in the locker.  Also, the online textbook can help supplement learning happening in the classroom as well as be used to help study for quizzes and tests.

1.     Accessing a Teacher’s Web Site

a.  Go to the Summit Parkway Middle School Website

b.   In the upper right hand corner, click "EXPLORE"

c.   Click on “SCHOOL DIRECTORY”

d.   Under "QUICK LINKS" (on the right), click "Instructional Directory"

e.   An alphabetical list (by last name) of all teachers at SPMS, will appear

f.   On this list, you'll find phone extensions, email addresses, and a link to the teacher's web site.

***If you would like frequent updates from teachers:

i. Create a group of all your child's teacher

ii. Email them once per week, generally Wednesday or Thursday is best so assignments that need to be completed can  be gathered.

iii. Remember, you have the one (possibly more) child(ren) in the teacher's class, but the teacher teaches in excess of 100 students.  Send them the email and you should receive great information as to how your child is doing in school.

***Generally, emailing teachers is going to be the easier of the two ways to get in touch with teachers because checking

email throughout the day is easier than checking voicemail.

2.     Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a powerful tool to help teachers give assignments, communicate to parents and students what those assignments are, and have one central place for students to turn those assignments in.  However, like any new technology, it can be challenging until you get the hang of it.  Below, you will find links to some very informative, but relatively brief YouTube videos that explain the basics of Google Classroom.

Answer:    It will vary from teacher to teacher.  Most update grades in their grade book approximately every 1-2 weeks.

  • Question:  What are grades used for besides determining promotion to the next grade or retention in the current grade?

Answer:  Grades are used for placement in classes for the next year.  Grades can help or hinder a child's application for a

magnet program.  Ultimately, grades tend to reflect what your knows.  If their grades are not good, they may not be

learning everything they need to know to be as successful as they are capable of being in future classes.
