GetSmartSC tackles college from multiple perspectives. There are resources for: 1) students going to college for the first time; 2) students who are returning to college; 3) members of the armed services who are wanting to attend school; and 4) financial assistance. There are also career exploration resources. It is truly a one-stop shop.

South Carolina Can Go to College
SC CAN, a campaign to promote college access in South Carolina, was established to do something about that. We’re letting students and parents know that college can be a reality — as long as you’re willing to work for it

South Carolina Colleges & Universities
SCIWAY provides a list of all colleges and universities in the state of South Carolina. The list is alphabetical and includes all public, private, and for-profit, 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities with links to their web sites.
Campus Tours is a web site that allows anyone to take a virtual tour of a university or college campus. The site allows you to search by name or state.

As part of a new Parent University Series on College & Career Readiness, Richland School District #2 offers free monthly webinars on the college planning process for parents and their high school students. Statistics show that less than 9% of all students who enter a 4 year college both graduate in 4 years and do so without debt. We believe timely information from industry professionals could dramatically move that needle.

College Entrance Tests
In the world of college entrance exams there are three.
-
ACT--An achievement test that consists of 4 sub-tests: English, Math, Reading, and Science Reasoning. The writing portion is optional.

SAT--An aptitude test that consists of 3 sub-tests: Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. The writing portion is optional.

ACCUPLACER--This test is used by technical colleges in South Carolina as a means of assessing academic strengths and weaknesses. The results are used to placed students in the classes with academic rigor that are comparable to their skills.
