Grades
How do I keep up with my child's grades?

Student Organizer for Parents (you will be asked to make your own copy of the document)

This document will provide you a template to help you organize your child's pertinent information as well as a link to Parent Portal and a space to store you username and password.

Generally, there are 2 tools you need to become familiar with--Google Classroom and Parent Portal.

  • Google Classroom

    • To receive notifications about what is going on in your child's classes, you can ask your child's teachers to add you to their Google Classroom. You will then receive all the notifications that your child receives about assignments and announcements of when quizzes and tests will be given.

  • Parent Portal

    • Parent Portal is connected to teachers' gradebooks. As soon as they update the gradebook, you can see updated grades in Parent Portal. When you login to Parent Portal, the first screen you see lists subjects, teachers, grades, and attendance.

    1. Teachers--The teachers' names are links that can open an email message so you can compose an email to a teacher.

    2. Grades--The grades are links that when clicked will open a list of all assignments for that marking period and the grades the student earned on the assignment.

    3. Attendance--The columns on the farthest right-hand side of the screen lists the absences and tardies a student has for each class. Clicking on the number will tell you the specific dates that the student was marked absent or was tardy.

    • Parent Portal has an option for you to receive emails updating you regarding your child's grades. In the left hand column under "Email Preferences," you can set it up so that Parent Portal will automatically email you an update of your child's grades. The update can be set anywhere between a daily update and a monthly update.

Summer School

  • Why does Summer School cost money?

    • Summer School costs money because it is something extra, outside of the regular school year. The fees that students' families pay cover the costs associated with Summer School (i.e., paying utility costs (electricity, water, and sewer), materials (paper), paying instructors and administrators.
